Singer and guitarist SOPHIA started her musical journey listening to electro based Hip-Hop, moving on to the flourishing British Indie scene of the early nineties (at which point she grew her hair, picked up a guitar and kicked a Wah pedal) listening to bands like Senseless Things, My Bloody Valentine and The Jesus And Mary Chain.

Sophia was the guitarist with the fat, noisy, talent less wah-wah fiends called Schwab, who regularly gigged the Worcester circuit (Ex-singer Andy Schwab now has a new band called The Arquettes gigging around the Midlands).

A music technology course saw Sophia start listening to tunes driven by looped beats and a Hip-Hop feel.

Now she has returned to her true love listening to the likes of Swervedriver, Sonic Youth, Eddie Hazel and Senseless things – influences that clearly show in her guitar playing.

Bass Player ROB and Sophia met in the heady days of the nineties and a musical friendship was formed which was to last for years. Rob too started out in the ninetes Indie scene but since then has gone on to embrace just about every type of music available to his ear.

Rob's influences span from the nimble fingers of Charlie Mingus through the Funk rhythms of Sly Stone, Bootsy Collins and Herbie Hancock right through to spaced out beats, Hip-Hop and Drum N Bass and covering everything in between. He loves the Funk groove the best though.

They originally formed a band called Zephyr - they only played one gig and then stopped playing altogether.

DEATH, the Drummer and martial arts expert – his name’s Death, he listens to the most savage sounds he can get his hands on and plays the drums with a frenzy of beats, fills, breaks, rolls and solos. He somehow makes the drums sound louder and bite harder than most drummers and yet has a delicate musical ear and carefully weaves his beats and fills around Robs Bass. His sense of rhythm is like a metronome and keeps the whole outfit as tight as a wetsuit. .. When Rob & Sophia met Death at a local gig, a musical trinity was formed. After a single practice it was clear that this was a band that was going to work. From the night they first met to their first gig was 2 weeks. The next gig followed 2 weeks later and from there many more followed. PsyFlyer was born and it was a raucous birth.

What you end up with as a result of this bizarre combination is music that is surprisingly focused and contains a myriad of sounds, rhythms and musical textures - it’s basically a refined form of British Alternative Rock. A raw, energetic feel but with an underlying groove and a degree of melody in the vocals.
