Sarah Burton, the woman who designed both Kate Middleton’s wedding dress and her sister Pippa’s bridesmaid’s gown, has been named Designer of the Year at a top awards ceremony.
The Glamour Women of the Year Awards, held last night in Berkeley Square Gardens, London, and hosted by Gavin and Stacey star James Corden, saw a host of awards given for women across many fields of sport and the arts.
Burton, who took inspiration for her design from the elegant dresses of Princess Grace of Monaco, took on the role of creative director at Alexander McQueen when her former partner Lee McQueen committed suicide in 2010.
Other winners on the night included American model Kim Kardashian winning the Entrepreneur of the Year award, Tamara Drewe star Gemma Arteton who won the accolade for Film Actress of the Year and young pop sensation Jessie J won the prized Woman of Tomorrow award.
Comedian and writer Dawn French won Writer of the Year, while The Saturdays took home the award for band of the year and Victoria Beckham, heavily pregnant with her fourth child, won the award for Accessory Designer of the Year.
Garrett Hedlund won the Man of the Year award, with a special award for former Fleetwood Mac legend Stevie Nicks, recognising her outstanding contribution to the music and glamour industries.
