Mercury Music Prize hopeful Adele cancels UK dates due to infection‘Chasing Pavements’ and ‘Rolling in the Deep’ singer Adele has had to cancel the opening two shows of her UK tour because of a serious infection affecting her chest. The affected venues are the Bournemouth International Center, and the Plymouth Pavilions.

The website, which holds the latest information about the disruption, currently says: “The shows will be rescheduled at the earliest opportunity and all original tickets will remain valid. Refunds will be available from the point of purchase.”

Her latest album, 21, has been at the top of the charts for months, and it will be announced on Wednesday whether or not her work will be recognized by the prestigious Mercury Music Prize. Other contenders for the title Tinie Tempah, Elbow, James Blake, PJ Harvey and Katy B.

Adele was also a multiple nominee at the Video Music Awards, alongside Katy Perry who had scooped an impressive nine nominations.

In late July, the star also attributed one of her influences to be Amy Winehouse, the artist who passed away earlier this summer. Adele believed that the ‘Valerie’ and ‘Rehab’ performer had ‘paved the way for artists like her,’ saying that she didn’t think Amy ‘realised how brilliant she was and how important she is.’

Adele also hit number one on the Billboard Hot 100 with Rolling in the Deep – an achievement that not many other artists share despite aspirations to do so.

The star has also given interviews about how she likes to write songs, indicating a good bottle of wine is all that is required to produce a lyrical hit.
