Motive is a Band started in Santa Maria, Ca. Members include Julian Clymer (vocals), Rick Plumlee II (guitar/backing vocals), Jordan Espinoza (bass) and Brian Campbell (Drums/percussion). Up and coming with a lot of clashing styles of rock, they have been getting huge attention throughout Southern California. A good mix of Metal, pop, grunge and Rock n' Roll, they not only bring a new and interesting style to the stage, but also bring energy and movement to their performances.
Originally started by Rick Plumlee II and a previous band member, they went through a few line-up changes and couldn’t quite find some individuals dedicated enough to put in the time. Eventually they did, the current lineup.
Julian Clymer is a Seattle, WA. Born, 21 year old who eventually moved to San Luis Obispo, Ca. to pursue his education and musical career. He has been singing his entire life and is largely influenced by Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Weezer, Rage Against the Machine, Nine Inch Nails and even many hip-hop acts such as Flobots. He brings a pop/hip-hop style laced with grunge and hard rock.
Rick Plumlee II was born and raised in Santa Maria, Ca. He’s been playing guitar for 8 years now and received his certificate in Advanced Guitar from Coelho’s Academy Of Music. Building his foundation on Classic rock and Blues music, he, at a young age discovered metal/hard rock and never looked back. Now 20, his biggest influences include Godsmack, Pantera, Motley Crue, Alice in Chains, Drowning Pool, Hatebreed and even Steve Miller Band, CCR, and The Eagles. He brings a hard edged, heavy driven guitar style to the band.
Jordan Espinoza was born in North Hollywood and has been playing bass since High School. Now 23, he resides in Santa Maria. He brings a huge amount of dedication and drive to the band. His influences include Dead Milkman, Bad Brains, Mike Watt (The Minutemen), Tim Commorford (Rage Against the Machine), and Jaco Pastiours.
Brian Campbell was born in Lompoc, Ca. and now resides in San Luis Obispo. He is 25 years old and has been playing the drums for many years, including drum line and many former bands. Nick-named “The Hammer”, he is a force to be reckoned with behind his set. His influences include Shannon Larkin (Godsmack), Neil Pert (Rush), Dream Theatre, Rikki Rocket (Poison), Slipknot, Slayer, Hatebreed and Papa Roach.
All together Motive has made a lot of noise up and down the west coast and plan to become bigger and better. Within the next six months they hope to be playing with and/or touring with bigger bands playing bigger shows around the country under a recognized label. They're now working with 52nd Street Productions and United Select Artists out of Los Angeles, Ca. They have high hopes and expectations for the future with a positive frame of mind and will not be satisfied until they’ve become nationally known and won’t stop there. Pushing themselves to be the best is all they do They live, breathe, eat and sleep music and strive to be on top and rocking harder for a bigger audience.
