Despite having moody cover art, "Thran" - a Celtic word for stubbornness and / or awkwardness - is an up-tempo mix of styles and instruments including wailing lead guitars, jamming acoustics, electronic synths and thudding bass lines and drums.
The maritime theme of the album artwork relates to Duthie's ancestry. His ancestors steam drifter "Duthies" was built 100 years ago in 1914 and was used in the north sea fishing industry. The boat was requisitioned by the Royal Navy and renamed "HMT Duthies" during the second world war and was sadly bombed by aircraft at Montrose on the 25th of October 1940, although all crew were rescued with no casualties.
All songs on the album were written and produced by Duthie from his Aberdeenshire studio. He has been assisted by sound engineer Thaddeus Moore who has worked with legendary music artists such as Frank Black and Thomas Mapfumo.
