Harsh.TV  Does An Exclusive Interview With The Very Talented
''Bay Of Plenty''
We talk Inspiration, Musical Influences & Find Out What there Current Project Is and also what's on Their Hot Playlist.
A Great Interview
Enjoy!!

Q.Tell us about who you are & What you do?

Kristian Lid, age 29, (vocals)
Jan Abild, 25, (guitars)
Øyvind Hodneland, 24 (drums)
Sveinung Fjermestad, 24 (bass)
Lars Ole Søvde, 27 (keys)

All of us living in Oslo. All of us have studied music in college. Jan, Lars Ole met there and started the band five years ago. Sveinung also went to the same college and joined the band a few years later. Jan works as a teacher, Lars Ole and Kristian are becoming teachers, Øyvind becoming an engineerer, and Sveinung works as a postman.
But a lot of time en effort is spent on the band project, which we are really excited about, and hopefully we can soon leave our jobs and do the band full time.

Q: Describe your Music in 5 words

We are constantly striving to create something that sounds energetic and melodic. In the initial phase of the band we were embracing almost any genre, but I think our sound is now more settled, somewhere in the rock/pop/alternative category. Enabling room for big anthemic choruses, haunting guitar riffs, analogue synth harmonies and a really punchy rhythm section.

Q.When did your Love with Music start?

It's hard to give a collective answer to that question. But our love for music probably started when we for the first time were able to grab an instrument and actually express feelings and emotions through it.
Also a funny feeling the first time you recognized a song on the radio that you just couldn't get out of your head (in a positive sense). The tape recorder was a convenient device for keeping such music fresh to your ear. Remember that Coolio's "Gangsta's Paradise" was such a song.

Q. What makes your Voice Stand Out from other Artists?

We have a mix of guitars and synths which is not revolutionary, but different from a lot of the bands out there. We like both guitar based rock and electronic music and are inspired by both worlds.

Q. Who would you like to Collaborate with in the Industry?

We would like to collaborate with someone who are more passionate for music than for money.
Electronica freaks and people in possession of a great number of old analogue synths are also welcome to join us in the studio.

 Q. Do you Write Your Own Material?

Yes, all songs we play are written by us, except our single “Take Heart”, which was co-written with producer Tre Sheppard. We have many good songwriters in the band, and we find songwriting to be an inspiring creative proccess that we enjoy doing in many different ways. You may for instance find us writing lyrics in a park or making melodies in a hotel room, but most often we'll be in our homes or in our rehearsal space working on new ideas together.

Q: What are your Current projects that you are working on?

We'll be heading back to the studio this fall to record a few new tracks with Tré Sheppard. Tré produced our first single, "Take Heart," and he is an amazing guy. He really pushed us in a good direction, and we are looking forward to working with him again. Also we're planning to do some more UK shows this fall, which will be nice!

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?

Hopefully we are a step closer to doing the band full time. If we continue to create music in the same pace as we do now, I would guess that a couple of albums should have seen the light of day.
But that of course also depends on how the music industry developes. Maybe we just release a bunch of singles, because releasing an album is so old fashioned. Who knows... Whatever happens, touring both nationally and internationally should be a big part of our future. At the moment we're very excited about just having had our first gigs in the UK, and we can't wait to get back.

Q: Where do you get your inspiration from?

I think everyone in the band listens to a lot of different music. Naturally the two of us playing the keys on stage (Sveinung and Lars Ole) listen to more synth and electronica -inspired music than the rest of the band. and likewise, everyone is constantly searching for new sounds and expressions for their own instrument.
But inspiration can come from many angles. Film, fine art, books, great thinkers with big ideas, and the synergy of just coming together as a band.

Q: Who would you rather listen to UK or US Music?

UK probably. UK bands and artists have a huge fanbase in Norway. Maybe it is the melancholy that reminds us of our own folk music. In a way it feels like UK artists in general have had more courage to be independent and move more boldly into unknown territory, while US artists often have had a tendency to be more mainstream oriented.

Q:What Artist do you listen to?

Mew, Mutemath, Imogen Heap, Radiohead, M83, Foster the People, Sigur Ros, and some Norwegian artists that are maybe not too well known in the UK yet, like Susanne Sundfør, Heroes & Zeros..

Q:Who influences your music?

Naturally the bands that we listen to today have a huge influence on us. But having listened to music for a couple of decades now, there is of course a certain baggage of
sounds and melodies that will always find its way to our conscious and unconscious mind. The bands that we grew up with will probably always have a special place in us.

Q: Please describe your fashion style in 5 words?

Am not really sure how to describe our fashion in a good way. Our budget hasn’t allowed us to hire any fashion designer yet, so we have had to figure out these things ourselves.
But we just had a photo shoot in Oslo right before our trip to the UK. Some of those press photos are now available on our facebook page, so people can have a look and maybe help us out describing our fashion style. As a rock band, black leather jackets and accessories from some decades back is of course a part of our fashion style.

Q: How can people Contact you & Collaborate with you?

We really want to have good contact with our fans, and therefore try our best to keep our facebook page and twitter account updated with videoclips, pics and general updates.

For other requests we have a managment that handle everything from press contact to concert requests. All info needed is found on our facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/bayofplentymusic)

Thanks,
