Harsh.TV's Special Hotspot Features - The Lovely Kim Joyce

Kim Joyce

In The Beginning
Kim Joyce is an American R & B singer, songwriter and producer. She was born March 27 in Detroit, Michigan. Kim began singing at a young age in her Father’s church in Detroit, Michigan. Kim was an enthusiastic participant each Sunday and her interest in music led her to piano lessons so she could assist her Mother on the piano as well. As her music talent flourished, Kim realized that she had talent to become a professional musician. However, her dream had to be put on hold.

Time Out
Prior to launching her music career, Kim Joyce was a four-year basketball player in the Big Ten Conference. Kim gained recognition as one of the premier guards in the nation while playing in AAU and received a full scholarship to The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio where her team won the Big Ten Conference as well as the Big Ten Tournament Championship. When Kim graduated fromOSU, she held Career Steals Leader and Defensive Player of the Year.

A Star in Progress…
During Kim Joyce’s tenure at OSU, she spent her time writing music and produced as many beats as she could when home in Detroit. During this time, Kim produced beats on FL Studio, MPC 2000, a Motif Workstation, and Reason 3.0. In 2005, she wrote a song with an alternative feel and was introduced to a band named LaQuest, joining them as their lead vocalist. During this time, Kim taught herself to play the guitar, adding to her live music toolkit.

Flying Solo…
Kim enjoyed being part of an alternative band, but felt that a solo career would allow her to explore multiple music genres and provide her with more opportunity. Since starting her musical career, Kim has traveled throughout the country to perform, network and learn from as many artists, songwriters and producers across music styles. As a solo artist she has won Spotlight Detroit (2006) and Ohio State Heritage Festival Talent Show (2006). She has appeared at the Columbus Red, White and Boom (2008), Detroit Rib and Soul Festival (2006) and the Chicago Caribbean Festival (2007). In addition, she has opened for Eric Roberson, Brian McKnight, Lil’ Wayne, Pleasure P andPJ Morgan to name a few.

Making Her Mark…
“In this Life, I was blessed with so many talents. I know God giveth and He takethaway, therefore I make it my job is to maximize all my blessings and to touch and share them with as many people as possible” is a quote from Kim Joyce. With a voice that has been compared to India Arie and Lauryn Hill, no mistake should be made; Kim Joyce has a unique sound and distinct look that allows her to shine and never be forgotten.
