2. Artists in Music Awards 2012 Results
I also wanted to share with you the final outcome of the 2012 All Indie Music Awards nomination. With humble and heart-felt thanks YOU propelled me to a finalist in the Best Jazz Artist Category. I did not win, but gosh dang it, we...you and I... we made it to the FINAL ROUND. 3. Two New EP's Released and a Buy one Get the Other FREE Offer!
I would be remiss if I didn't take this opportunity to tell you about what I have been doing with my music, well, I've been very fruitful! I have two brand new EP releases, "suggestions" which was a romance collection of my own music in a soulful, throwback to the 70's sound. "Motherless Child" includes the aforementioned "Annette's Song" along with a brand-new recording and arrangement of "At Last" to memorialize one of the greatest voices in popular music, Etta James who as you might know, very recently passed away. She and my Mom were both born in 1938, the title track is my own arrangement of the timeless African-American spiritual that I listened to from a YouTube clip of Mahalia Jackson performing it on a TV show back in the 50's and the connection there is she was one of my Mom's favorites and it is so poignant, especially now, it took me a while to get through it without breaking down. This was recorded in one take, just soldiered through it.
There have been many losses in the music world lately, Whitney was a shock, so was Don Cornelius, the man who created and hosted Soul Train. Ironically, I had just written the song "TSOP Style" mere days before his death, it was my "nod" to the fun memories of my Mom, and my sisters and I watching Soul Train and "attempting" some of those moves. Oh my! The Soul Train theme song by TSOP was everywhere and that song inspired the tune you can find it on "suggestions" and I made a video for it, when the news hit, it took me a while to gather the clips, but I think it came out well, you can see it here: http://www.youtube.com/avalemert
So with so much personal meaning in these new songs, I hope we can heal and I can reach you even more with my music.
