Q-Rock. South Africa has yet to see a Hip-Hop artist or group dominate their lands consistently, that is, until now. You might say the throne had been empty for a long time. Quinton (aka Q-Rock) grew up in Mitchells Plain on the Cape Flats listening to Hip-Hops beats from around the world which he used to breakdance to outside and inside local bars and clubs. Smitten by the beats, Q-Rock started to write his own lyrics and perform his own rap and ragga beats, mentored by the favourites of the masses who saw his raw talent, DJ MC Ready, Teba, J Xratet and Waleed Jumat from RAW and, of course the added influence of his beloved motherland.
In South Africa, Q-Rock has featured, supported and performed with Deborah Cox, Aloe April, Branda Fassie, Eden, Richard Cheasar, Funny Car, Verd, Nikki, Dalen, Karen Kortjie, Ptricia Lewis, Alister Isobell, Will Smith, Tha3kingz, Tecno Tronic, Emo Adams, Tuca Tucan, HHP, Keith Sweat, Ashaan and Sybil, E-Smile, Mandoza and many more.
Q-Rock is always eager to share his songwriting talents and has written for Funny Carp, D'Low, Reds and Blaz'e.
Q-Rock is not only influenced by Hip-Hop but has a true ear and appreciation for all music. Just like Public Enemy sampled Queen, Q-Rock's rendition of 'I Found the One' by Leo Sayer has been played on radio stations in South Africa and is due for release shortly. Q-Rock is an individualist. Who else would turn a Leo Sayer track into a ragga rap alongside the vocal talents of DJ Swagger, Spike MC, Iman Natief, Tha3kingz and Manual 'Tokkie' Lopser!
Television performances include Craze & Backstage, SABC 1 & 2, ETV, Pitstop, CNN and BBC TV.
COMING SHORTLY - Che Dem Records are so pleased that Q-Rock chose them to promote and sell his forthcoming music online.
