Hopefully this article will hope to give you some tips on band promotion and marketing.
One of the main things in my opinion you can do is to create a really well put together press pack, this can include things as a short biography, merchandise, reviews from articles and a promotional CD. It is imperative to have a well put together and entertaining press pack publishers will ask for them along with magazines, websites and pretty much anybody else who wishes to help you advance your band further. I see so many bands trying to promote themselves but don't go about it in a professional manner, even things such as a short biography about yourself can be so helpful as it tells the reader who you are and that you are serious about the future of the band. Reviews about the band are also very good at promoting your band further as it shows you have some fan base and have been already making an impact so other people will be more willing to give you a listen.
Merchandise is also essential in band promotion not only does it give your fans something to buy but is also a sense of income for the band although it may not be much hopefully you will be able to scrape enough money together for more varied merchandise such as stickers and banners but also it is money for petrol, equipment and studio time. Selling t-shirts as well and having people wear them to your gigs and around, shows promoters that you already have a fan base and promoters will be more eager to put you on knowing that you will have less of a prelim filling out the venue.
Having a good online presence as well is essential Facebook, twitter, Reverberation are all useful tools in promoting your band and you are not limited to just one area and can easily distribute your music all over the world. There are also a number of online sites that will promote your music for free. Also check out other bands and see what they are doing if there layouts of web pages look better or worse than yours, what tactics they are employing to promote themselves. Also from a production side of things how to their recordings sound and are yours up to standard.
Lastly my final piece of advice would be is to play anywhere and don't worry if you are not being paid you never now who is sat in the crowd and also try and open for more established bands. I hope this has been interesting and informative thanks for reading and good luck.
