Jams Monk Introduces you to The Retinal Circus

Let James Monk introduce you to The Retinal Circus

The Retinal Circus can be a varied live experience with songs of various moods and styles.. Subject matter varying from introspective self exploration, over looked shapes, nebulae & the stars to platonic relationships with time keeping devices. One minute you could have a full on immersive wall of sound with ethereal delays, the next you could be hearing a ridiculous energetic snippet of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky “March” from the nutcracker suite, or perhaps some medieval reggae mixed with the shadows and kraftwerk.

Taking my name from vision 6. Instructions for Use during a Psychedelic Session as described in the psychedelic experience by Timothy Leary I intend to bring joy, surrealism and confusion with each performance.. So far it has been a success.. No money to speak of but plenty of laughs..

"It must be said that Craigus is possibly the most gifted musical artist around at the moment, the man is a true genius! Craig is a living, walking, talking Avatar of the Tate Modern. His music is a living exhibition of art abstract and colourful indeed, respect is due!” – Gazza T 2010

-- I have been making music of all varieties since the age of 17 now.. From strumming an acoustic box with strings wired into a delay pedal, to creating horrid noise, playing theremin, balalaika, midi guitar, synths, stylophone, or Omnichord to scatting with an circuit bent Furby... I have played with Ed Cox, Tragic Round About, Damo Suzuki of Can, Dudley Sutton, Johnny Kowalski & The Sexy Weirdos, Becky Rose, oxygen thief, amongst others.. along the way people have said the nicest things:

-

“Craigus you are without a doubt the most genius bloke I have ever met” – Dale - Acoustic Brew Promotions 2010

-

"Play your song that's most like the old woman with a wheelebarrow"= Rich Clarke 08

-

“Craigus Barry closed off a fine and thoroughly enjoyable night out with some style with a set of ragtime bluesy and jazzy, pastiches..” Andy O’Hare 2009

-

"'TELL CRAIGUS (THE POOR MAN'S SYD BARRETT AS HE WROTE ON HIS E.P. THAT THE POOR MAN'S ROGER DEAN WOULD BE HONOURED TO DO HIS NEXT ALBUM COVER."= Mark Wilkinson, artist extraordinaire 2008

-

"Your music is beautiful, I think you've invented a new genre" Rachel Clutterbuck August 07

-

We also have a contender for best QUOTE ever!>

--

"Some people have suggested Craigus, who behind the hat is The Retinal Circus, is mad. Others have suggested he is a genius.I work in a Mental Health home, and no-one there writes songs as good as anything Craigus has, they just argue about cigarettes an watch MTV2, so I reckon he must be a genius." Richard Chappell

if it doesn't rate as best quote it certainly made me fall of my chair.. but that could be because the legs are broken on it.. so not sure Rich :)
