Q.Tell us about who you are & What you do?
I go by the name of Rachelle my name at birth; born and raised in West London England. I am a Singer Songwriter the daughter of an old time Jamaican DJ ‘Trinity’ who has been performing for over 30 years. He is best known for his songs ‘Three Piece Suit’, ‘Number One’ and his contribution to Louisa Marks ‘Sixth Street’ (B side). I am too the niece of the Reggae artist Clint Eastwood who sings with band member General Saint, Known for songs such as ‘Stop that train’ and ‘Another one Bites the Dust’. Both Father and Uncle were very popular in the 70’s and early 80’s. Though my choice of genre is different I believe my talent is in the blood and I am very proud of my family’s musical accomplishments. I believe I inherited the ability to express deep underlining messages in songs that are relevant to many. At the age of 18 I attended college to study a BND Popular music course where I was able to grow further in knowledge and art form. It was there where I made my first album which was very different to what I create now. It is clear that with my experience and growth that comes with maturity my music compositions as a consequence has changed. As a musician I strive to continue producing music that is honest and the reflection of both my journey and perception of life. It’s the good, the bad and the ugly in music form. It’s the story of love, pain, lust, partying and friendship. What I do as a music songwriter is tell a story in the form of song.

Q: Describe your Music in 5 words

Q: What are your Current projects that you are working on?
Currently I am writing and working on album tracks for release in 2012. This is going on in the background while I promote my single ‘How U Doin?’ that is available soon via download from 28th October 2011

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?
Performing, songwriting and maybe even initiating a book of my life because it would be juicy, revealing and very interesting lol. I would also like to work with artists I admire. Additionally, in that time I would like to say that I have positively impacted others in some way.

Q: Where do you get your inspiration from?
I get a lot of my inspiration from real life experiences. I seem to express myself better writing music than I do generally. Writing is a positive outlet for me when I’m in love, happy, sad, or even in moments of anger.

Q: Who would you rather listen to UK or US Music?
Though I am a UK artist I do enjoy U.S Music, I practically grew up with it in the 90’s during my years of adolescence. For this reason I will always enjoy the music as it holds memories at a time where Black artists on music channels such as MTV were predominately from that particular part of the world. I love that they were and still are not afraid to experiment, have a good way of expressing music which is heartfelt and often create tracks which can be played in any era. In terms of the UK market I think artists are presently beginning to create music from the heart rather than revising acts that are already out there. Additionally, I’m beginning to see an entrepreneur spirit where artists are saying to themselves ‘ok the gate masters to the industry don’t get me, but my fans do’ and really getting themselves out there using social network sites, creating websites, performances, creating own music videos and utilising internet downloads to get sales. I definitely think the UK are catching up with artists like Big Brovas, Sway, The Streets, Estelle Wretch 32, JLS and Jessie J. Soon my mp4 will have tracks loaded with straight UK Music if they continue in this way.

Q: What Artist do you listen to?
The artists I listen to are so diverse in genre and style. One day I’ll listen to ‘Prince’ and the next day I’ll be listening to ‘Bob Marley’. I will mention however that my favourite girl groups are TLC and SWV of whom I’ll listen to until my CD breaks or scratches. They have such strong messages in their songs like a musical version of ‘Sex and the City’. I must say Boys II Men, Usher, Monica and R.Kelly too are one of my favourites. Equally I listen to Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and ‘All Saints’.

Q:Who influences your music?
I am heavily influenced by artists from the 90’s in terms of their honesty in the messages that they convey in their song lyrics. In terms of the genre I am sure evidence of vocal expressions ranging from R&B to Reggae to lovers rock and even pop can be found within various tracks from the music mish mash I listen to.
