FIREWALK CHALLENGE

What to expect

Secure your place in the event by paying your £20 deposit and signing up online as soon as you can. Places are limited and on a strictly first come, first served basis. Closing date for sign up is Monday 14 November 2011.

Sponsorship and deposit

You will need to raise a minimum of £150 to take part, which can include your original £20 deposit. But please don’t stop there – we will have a trophy for the highest sponsorship raised, ready to present on the night. So create a fundraising page on Virgin Money Giving, set your sights high and let family, friends and work colleagues all know your fundraising page address.

What to do next

Once you have reserved your place you will receive a welcome email from the events team along with further event information and our fundraising pack. This is your starting point to begin fundraising – but don’t put it off. The sooner you start fundraising, the more people you can reach and the easier it will be to hit your target.

On the day of the Firewalk (Monday 21 November 2011), you will need to register at the SNO!zone Bar, Xscape, Milton Keynes where our Firewalk events team will be waiting for you. You can do this any time between 5pm and 6.45pm. This should only take about 10 minutes. If you choose to register early, you will be able to leave and come back later but we would ask you to make sure you return to the SNO!zone Bar no later than 6.45pm ready for your Firewalk preparation training.

Please allow 10 minutes to register. Members of the MIB Unlimited Team as well as Scope staff will be on hand to answer any questions you may have.

There is a minimum participant age limit of 18. You will be asked to show proof of age if under 21 so please remember to bring formal photo ID with you.

Bring supporters to help cheer you along

Do ask family and friends to come along and support you. They may be with you whilst you register but at 6.45pm they will be asked to leave the SNO!zone Bar, ready for you and your fellow Firewalkers to begin your Firewalk preparation training session behind closed doors.

Training and preparation session

This specialist session is private and the only people allowed in the SNO!zone Bar will be the Firewalkers and the Fire Trainer. Everyone else will be asked to leave. The specialist NLP training gives you an insight on how to overcome our everyday ‘knee-jerk’ negative reactions; how to take control of automatic negative assumptions that assume “no – I can’t do that”. It is an incredibly steep learning curve but you should come out from the training feeling positive, empowered and full of energy.

If you have any supporters waiting during the training time, they are welcome to enjoy the facilities of Xscape (the SNO!zone, restaurants, bars, family entertainment) or they might prefer to move out to the Piazza area at the front entrance of Xscape and watch the Firebed preparations.

The moment arrives – the Firewalk!

At 9pm – your Firewalk preparation finishes and you are led through Xscape, out to the Firebed area (at the Piazza at the front of the building) which will be burning at around 1,260 degrees Fahrenheit, and the Firewalk begins. This is where friends, families and spectators will all be waiting so prepare yourself for some serious noise.

You watch, you wait and then it’s your turn. It’s really happening. You are walking over burning hot embers, probably shouting and cheering along with the rest of the crowd who are roaring and cheering for you.

Within seconds – it is all over. You have done it. The cheering and clapping is deafening and you are grinning fit to bust. You have just faced the most amazing challenge, you are a Firewalker! And to top it all off, you have helped Scope raise much needed funds through the sponsorship you have raised.

We do hope you will join us, in what promises to be an unforgettable evening and an amazing event.

But one final thing….

Conduct

For the safety of all concerned, we would ask that if you intend to Firewalk, please do not drink alcohol or take drugs before or during the event as this may impair your judgement. Individuals who appear to be under the influence of anything other than pure excitement will not be allowed to Firewalk. There will be plenty of time and opportunity to celebrate afterwards.
