Fur...Fashion-forward or fashion faux pas?

With over 400 world-class designers including Fendi, Oscar de la Renta, Jean Paul Gaultier and John Galliano, incorporating fur in a variety of new ways this season, fur remains high on the fashion agenda.
Fur is one of the only trends that appears on the catwalk every autumn/winter. Once the winter period arrives, editorials fill their pages with the latest must-have garment. Real fur will usually be included whether it is a fur-trimmed jacket or a full-length mink coat.

During the 1980s the fur-trapping and fashion industries came under increasing criticism from animal rights activists and animal welfare organisations for the cruel procedures to obtain fur. There was a time when both celebrities and models were endorsing the PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) ‘I’d rather go naked than wear fur’ statement. However, more and more consumers are shunning faux fur for real fur. Harrods has been identified as the last department store in the UK to stock real fur and vintage store Beyond Retro sells vintage furs, despite continuous efforts by anti-fur protestors and their demonstrations.

So is real fur in or out for you?
