Hertfordshire is home to Jack Omer, but he won’t be spending much time there now that his first UK tour dates have been announced in support of his debut album ‘The Music of Joanna’ out 17th June.
This young, thought provoking, home-grown artist writes songs that have a light earthy feel while the Dylan influence looms large. In tandem with earnest producer Neill MacColl (David Gray, Boo Hewerdine, Eddi Reader) Omer’s careful to draw roots from strands of folk, country and Americana, without masking the depth of the lyric writing and the subtle beauty of the song melodies.
While he keeps his two lives very separate, there’s another side to Jack which reveals his personal concerns. Not content with crafting such delicate songs and touring them extensively, he recently completed a Masters degree in International Relations, swiftly moving onwards and embarking upon a PhD at Kings College London on Anglo-Jewish anti-Zionism.
“The songs are intensely personal, my doctoral research is where I try keep my concern for the rest of the world,” says Jack.
“Something Wicked” / “Ferryville” the double AA side single will be released 1st July. Both songs are taken from the debut album ‘The Music Of Joanna’ which is released 17th June.
