Q.Tell us about who you are & What you do? .
We are Louise O’Reilly and Paul Hannan: two parts together making Laneway. We sing and play on guitars and try to translate the sound of a dying summer into song. We have come here from the edge of an extinct volcano in the forest of Australia… via Berlin.

Lonesome, amorous, wild, mirthful, drifting.
Q.Please give your Fans 3 Fun Facts About you
1. Paul has enormous hands.
2. Louise is part elf.
3. We live right next to the glowworm capital of the southern hemisphere.
(Only 2 of these are true).
Q. What makes your Voice Stand Out from other Artists?
There’s two of them…the boy/girl tones mix well and have always made sense.
Q. Do you Write Your Own Material?
Yes. And we are very thankful to all the wonderful artists who inspire us to do so.
Q: What are your Current projects that you are working on?
We are based in Berlin for the summer on the Grant McLennan Memorial Fellowship. Robert Forster of the Go-Betweens set it up with the rest of the band after Grant’s sudden and sad passing a few years ago. It gives a songwriter from our home state the chance to travel abroad and work on the craft. We are writing new material for a third album, playing live for new audiences in Europe and the UK, riding our bikes around those old streets and cooking Bar-B-Qs in the park. We are both working on solo projects as well as Laneway and we hope to get these started properly when we get back on our home turf.
Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?
Hopefully by then we have sold enough records to connect the power to our cottage in the forest. We’ll tour for long stretches of the year and then come home and be able to turn on the lights.
Q: Where do you get your inspiration from?
Other people’s music, other people’s lives, oxygen, petty arguments, the weather and the will to live.
Q: Who would you rather listen to UK or US Music?
We are both huge fans of British music. Many of our favourite and most influential bands are from the UK. You can hear it in Paul’s playing too. But in fact this project started out of our simultaneous discovery of American country singers. We were both into folk but went through a stage a few years back of listening to heaps of 50s and 60s country that really opened up a new way of composing and singing in harmony too.
Q: What Artist do you listen to?
We listen to most forms of music. The standouts would be Bob Dylan, The Smiths, Joni Mitchell, The Ramones, Paul Simon, Tammy Wynnette...in fact a list is too hard! Last week we saw The Stone Roses, tonight we are going to watch Leonard Cohen and next week Tame Impala… Louise doesn’t really share Paul’s love of 80’s thrash metal. Paul is not all that open to some of the new troubadours Louise will look up and check out.
Q: Who influences your music?
Each other. Constantly.
