Harsh.TV Does An Exclusive Interview with The Amazing - ***Jack Omer***

Q.Tell us about who you are & What you do? .
I’m Jack Omer, a British singer-songwriter. I’m just about to release my debut album The Music of Joanna which I’ve spent the last year recording with some of the UK’s best musicians, including Neill Macoll (David Gray), Kate St John (Van Morrison) and Neil Cowley (Adele). In support of the album I’m also about to set out on my first UK tour.

Q: Describe your Music in 5 words
Passionate, lyrical, intimate, authentic and honest

Q.Please give your Fans 3 Fun Facts About you
As well as my music career I’m also working for my PhD
I’ve spent a lot of time in Vietnam and lived in the US for a year
My three favourite books are The Great Gatsby by F Scott Fitzgerald, East of Eden  by John Steinbeck and David Copperfield by Charles Dickens

Q. What makes your Voice Stand Out from other Artists?
I think what makes my sound different from other new artists is that it’s very classic. I think if people listened to the album without knowing when it was made they would think it could easily have been recorded at any point over the last fifty years. I want to make music that is timeless and isn’t grounded in things that are going on now.

Q. Do you Write Your Own Material?
Yes, I write all my own material. At gigs I sometimes throw a cover or a traditional folk song into the set but apart from that all the material is my own.

Q: What are your Current projects that you are working on?
When I’m not playing live and promoting my new album I am busy writing the songs for the next record! I’m always writing and trying to find material and inspiration for new songs.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?
In 5 years time I see myself having made at least another two records and having taken my music to many different parts of the world. I hope I will have played and collaborated with many more wonderful musicians.

Q: Where do you get your inspiration from?
Some songs are inspired by my own life, thoughts and experiences. My first single, “Something Wicked This Way Comes” is a good example of this- it’s a song that deals with a really difficult time in my life. Other songs are inspired by the wider world and my concerns for the people in it. An example of this from the album would be “The Golden Shore” which is about people who society forgets about and leaves behind and how angry this can make them. I just like to tell stories through my songs, and sometimes they are my own stories and sometimes I try to tell other peoples.

Q: Who would you rather listen to UK or US Music?
While I love and am inspired by a great many British artists, I have always tended more towards American music. I’ve often wondered why this is. I think it’s because American music has always seemed to me to be more willing to be sincere and heartfelt and to wear its heart on its sleeve. British music tends towards irony a bit more I think, which is great, but American music has always just grabbed me more on an emotional level.

Q:What Artist do you listen to?
There are so many! Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, Leonard Cohen, Townes Van Zandt and Gene Clark have all influenced my music so much, but the artist I listen to and treasure the most is Bob Dylan. To me he is simply the greatest writer popular music has ever known, and I never get tired of listening to him.

Q:Who influences your music?
As well as the artists I mentioned before, I have always been really influenced by traditional folk music, the songs that have been handed down over hundreds of years and are just as powerful and beautiful now as when they were first sung.

Q: Please describe your fashion style in 5 words?
Simple, understated and usually dark!

Q: How can people Contact you & Collaborate with you?
I can be contacted through any of these websites:
