New Yorkers Shinobi Ninja transform the Philly soul of Boyz II Men's smooth ballad "Water Runs Dry" into a rock-&-hip-hop explosion in this week's installment of Mashup Mondays.

How did the New York sextet tackle the transformation of Boyz II Men's 1995 No. 2 Pop Songs chart hit? "The challenge was really to bring the energy we have as a band, change [the song], and bring it, Shinobi-style," says DJ Axis Powers. The band is rounded out by co-vocalists DA and Baby G, drummer Terminator Dave, bassist Alien Lex, and guitarist Maniac Mike.
Far sonically different from the laptops-and-grunchy-guitars of Shinobi Ninja, Boyz II Men's success -- including a string of 90s hits that still make hearts melt -- is something any group would aim for. To that end, SN, who only formed three years ago, have already dropped two EPS, two mixtures, and 2011's studio album "Rock Hood." And they've built a strong following because of their energetic shows.
