With the ever growing need of innovative designs, we have seen works of many diligent designers setting mark with most unique designs. In the list of such pioneering designers, Zaha Hadid who is the first woman to receive the renowned Pritzker Architecture Prize in 2004 has created some ground-breaking pieces of sculpture crafted from daily use household items.
The designs by the renowned designer will be housed at PMA (Philadelphia Museum of Art) which is among the largest art museums in the United States, showcasing more than 2,000 years of exceptional human creativity in various fields such as painting, sculpture, works on paper and decorative arts. The museum has architectural settings from Asia, Europe, Latin America and the United States.
The designs are named as Starchitecture and can be an inseparable part of your living room decor. As stated by PMA curator Kathryn Hiesinger for the designer, “She was early and extremely consistent in adopting direct-to-production technology. You have a computer program feeding itself into a manufacturing system, so her design gets translated very directly into a finished product.”
Hadid works on all kind of shapes, sizes and symmetries that resemble to modern art. The exhibition will last from September 17, 2011 to March 25, 2012 in Exhibition Gallery, Perelman Building and will feature 40 objects of the designer. Some of the items that will be seen in the exhibition are a go cart look alike car, sterling silver coffee and tea set for Sawaya & Moroni, a carbon fiber three-wheeled Z-car concept car for an art dealer in the UK, shoes for Lacoste, Roman sandals etc. amongst the highlights of the display, will be the Sleekly curving sofas (looks uncomfortable), Swarovski crystal–encrusted necklaces and bracelets.
The designs are created from polyurethane, wood, steel, aluminum and each item is one-of-a kind and do not resemble to anything that you have seen before. The designer Zaha Hadid will be honored with the Design Excellence Award given by Collab on 19th November this year. The Collab is a volunteer committee of design professionals and enthusiasts sustaining the modern and contemporary design collection at the Museum. The first female designer to receive this award has successfully completed many projects such as MAXXI: National Museum of 21st Century Art in Rome, Riverside Museum of Transport in Glasgow, Guangzhou Opera House in China and is currently working on Aquatics Center for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
